Complacency

In thinking about different cities or towns, 'complacency' does not seem to be the only axis. For example, in Wales I got a feeling of complacency (ie. no striving), but Japan or the Gers are also not places of strong striving, yet felt nicer. I think another axis might be '讲究'. In Japan or the Gers, people care deeply about certain things. Culture, food, tradition, handcrafts, etc. In Wales, I did not get that feeling (sorry Wales).

We then have two axis, with striving/jiangiu at one corner, and complacent/uncaring at the corner. Wales would be complacent/uncaring. Japan would be complacent/jiangjiu SV/London would be striving/half-half HongKong might be half-half/jiangjiu? Not sure of a good example of stiving/jiangjiu, maybe there is a tension there that prevents it, but the above is just based on person feeling, so probably personal bias!
