Sleep

See Why We Sleep

Recently (2019-07-23) I have been able to start running every day again. This has meant a consistently earlier wake time, since before-work is the only time I can consistently get a run in.

Maybe in part because I recently read the above book, I have noticed a big increase in sleepiness, drop in reaction time, harder to think clearly, harder to concentrate, etc. I imagine that it would be very possible to miss this if it were a gradual change (for example a bedtime that slowly creeps backwards over a few months). Indeed, in Why We Sleep, the author notes that many people are not aware that their performance is impaired by lack of sleep.

The increase in car crashes when sleep impaired is especially worrying. This is an urgent issue. Getting to sleep earlier, and getting higher quality (less interrupted) sleep should be a priority.
